Do you love to travel? Do you love to travel by yourself? Perhaps by the time you finish reading this article, and subsequent articles about traveling by yourself at 50+, you may wish to consider solo travel for your next trip.

Do not in any way misunderstand, I love my friends and family, but really appreciate being my own best friend and traveling solo. The benefits of traveling on your own will astound you!

I read recently that 11% of Americans travel solo and 26% of those are age 50-64, 12% are 65+! Who knew? As we age, friends and family begin to leave us. Often, the only way to travel is going solo. Some embrace it and others do not.

I used to think why in the world would anyone ever want to travel by themselves. Is it scary? Is it lonely, no one to talk to, no one to hang out with?

On the contrary. There are so many benefits of traveling by yourself.

  • You can make new friends from all over the globe.
  • You can travel on your own time line.
  • It’s cheaper.
  • No drama.
  • You will step out of your comfort zone.
  • Your selfie skills are accelerated.
  • And, my personal favorite, you will become comfortable with yourself and develop an amazing sense of courage and confidence you never knew you had.

I took my first solo trip at the age of 54, and what I brought home was much greater than just a beautiful stamp in my passport. I stood so much taller than my 6’2” actual body frame with an amazing sense of confidence and courage. I was hooked on solo travel!

I do enjoy traveling with my friends and family, however, but it is so much more liberating to travel alone!

Try it — you might like it.
