Your New Normal Life After the Pandemic

As the pandemic dies down and you re-engage with “normal” life, you may find you can’t or don’t want to go back to the lifestyle you had before.

You’ve changed; life has changed. How can you move forward in a positive way, embrace new possibilities, and leave behind what no longer works?

Bridge the Pre-Post Pandemic Gap

On the outside, you can re-build the same life. But on the inside, you are different post-pandemic. Unless you change direction, you’ll create a gap between how you feel on the inside and what you do on the outside.

If you fall into this gap, you might get stuck.

Instead, take a fresh look at where you are now and where you want to go. What fundamental changes do you want to build into your life?

Have the Courage to Create Your New Normal

You need courage to make changes in your life. It’s easy and comfortable to stay with what you know. When you embrace discomfort with courage, you’ll grow.

Look within and question long-held beliefs and assumptions:

  • What about your pre-pandemic life pleased you?
  • What caused resistance, stress, or pain?
  • What do you want to leave behind, adapt, or carry forward?

 

You have an extraordinary opportunity to reject old patterns and habits. These could be habits that held you back. Or ideas that have separated you from yourself and loved ones.

When you examine the past, be courageous and honest. Expose your truth.

Approach the Present and Future with Curiosity

You don’t know what the future holds. You never have, so don’t tell yourself you have to know the outcome.

Explore possibilities. Challenge yourself. Ask, “What if?”

  • Put aside what you think you know or must do. What kind of life do you want?
  • Who do you want to be in the world?
  • What do you want to create in the future?

 

Curiosity and creativity are powerful internal forces you can harness to advance your growth. Explore new ideas and different perspectives for various aspects of your life. Don’t allow unseen barriers to limit what you want to bring forth in the world.

Make Changes to Create the New Life You Want

Change requires you to leave behind what you know to try something new.

Change, of course, is inevitable, and it’s natural to resist it. But when you feel resistance, acknowledge it, then let it go.

This will make space for new thoughts and feelings to emerge. Dive into whatever new ideas come to mind as you visualize the life you want post-pandemic:

  • What are some new ideas, projects, or behaviors you wish to explore?
  • Choose one project or idea to start.
  • What is one small step you can take in that direction?

 

Keep taking those next steps. There is no rush. Don’t worry about the future. It will take care of itself.

If you realize the idea isn’t the right one or you don’t want to do it, pivot and start again.

Keep the process light. Allow yourself self-compassion. Exploration is a joy, not a job. When you feel resistance or pressure, stop, walk away, and come back later.

Take a Fresh Look

Taking a fresh, honest look at your life — your past and future — allows you to create new possibilities and avoid getting stuck.

You’ll begin to understand you hold an unlimited potential for creation within you. Your experience of life will expand. It will become clear that the only limits to what you want are the limits you impose upon yourself.

If after reflection, you determine that you don’t want to return to what was your pre-pandemic normal life, know that you have the power to create the new life you wish to live. You already have everything you need to do whatever it is you want. Take the first step with courage, curiosity, and the willingness to embrace change.
