Over the years, I’ve had many readers of my blog, The Curious Cowgirl, reach out for my advice on the best Holiday Events in NYC. I keep a list full of tips, guidance, and information that will make any holiday trip to the Big Apple magical for both kids and adults! Here are a few of my favorites.
- The Christmas Villages: Four main Christmas Villages in Manhattan open from mid-November through New Year’s. They are located at Columbus Circle, Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, and Union Square. There›s always hot chocolate, cider, tasty treats, lots of shopping, and general merriment.
- Ice Skating: There are FOUR fun places to ice skate in NYC. The most popular rink is, of course, at Rockefeller Center. Due to the huge crowds, I highly suggest reserving a skate time online to avoid waiting for hours! The cost is about $35 per person. You can get a package deal if you are having breakfast with Santa. Another fantastic location is Bryant Park, which is not as crowded, and also includes a Christmas Village for strolling and treats!
- The Christmas Spectacular, starring the Radio City Rockettes: This is a Christmas activity that everyone should experience at least once! It’s a ton of fun, and everyone will enjoy the dancing Santas. You must purchase tickets ahead of time. All shows are 90 minutes with no intermission.
- The Medieval Tree at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: This beautiful Christmas Tree is decorated with intricate, beautiful angels and Nativity Scenes around the base, and there are wonderfully ethereal medieval Christmas Carols playing in the room. It’s quite an experience.
- It’s a Wonderful Life: All December, the IFC Theater in Greenwich Village screens the original black and white film It’s a Wonderful Life. I know YOU have seen it … but have the kids?
- Storefront Windows: A trip to NYC during the holidays should also include a stroll along iconic 5th Avenue to admire the richly decorated storefront windows and shops. Grab a hot chocolate and soak up all the twinkling lights!
