The Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is the department under the umbrella of the Community Council of Greater Dallas responsible for planning, advocating, coordinating resources and providing services for seniors (persons 60+) and their caregivers in the Dallas County area. It is part of a national network administered by the Federal Administration on Aging and funded under the Older Americans Act. The Dallas Lighthouse SOS specialists are able to connect each senior to the services that best fit their requirements to remain independent, to maintain their privacy, and to stay in their homes.  Leadership at the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind (DLB), announced in February 2018 that it is now offering Aira technology (pronounced EYE-Rah) – or “live” visual assistance via smart glasses – to both the organization’s employees and the seeing impaired community-at-large who visit the facility. The Dallas Lighthouse will be the first of 61 lighthouses for the blind in the country to utilize the technology.
