Woman Over 50 Caring for Her Skin

Simple Ways to Get Glowing Skin After 50

I am a firm believer that radiant skin makes for a youthful appearance at any age: When you look in the mirror and love what you see, your confidence soars!
But with today’s busy lifestyles, committing to a twice-daily skincare regimen can seem like yet another task on your to-do list.
Fortunately, a routine for glowing skin can be fast and effective – even if you’re over 50. You just need to follow a few important steps. Start with these skin care basics for beautifully renewed smoothness and luminosity!

Exfoliate for Smooth Skin

Exfoliation is key in any new skincare regimen and will help remove dead skin cells that interfere with the absorption of key ingredients. This, in turn, will help you reach your skincare goals faster.
When we are young, skin cell regeneration happens naturally. But, as we age, our skin’s ability to renew, or “turn over,” skin cells slows significantly, resulting in uneven texture and tone.
Be sure to look for gentle exfoliating ingredients that leave your skin smooth and nourished rather than dry or tight. Try gentle ingredients like jojoba beads, papaya enzymes, and alpha hydroxy acids. Exfoliate your skin at least once or twice per week to maintain a smooth and even complexion.

Cleanse Gently

There are many options to gently cleanse mature skin.
While it is essential to steer clear of harsh cleansers that strip your skin of natural oils, it is also vital to opt for a cleanser you enjoy using every day, and one that leaves your skin feeling clean and comfortable.
Look for skin-soothing cleansers that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients like green tea and vitamins A and E. If you love a sensorial cleansing experience, opt for natural oil extracts rather than fragrances.

Serum for the Plump

Serums contain potent ingredients and should be applied to the skin right after cleansing.
Look for vitamin C to brighten and provide antioxidant protection, and peptides to repair and increase collagen production.
Serum should also contain ingredients that hydrate and help your skin attract and retain water. A must-have ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that retains moisture and water.

Moisturize to Glow

Moisture and hydration are two very different things, so you will need to follow your serum with a moisturizer.
This helps lock in moisture and prevent water loss. Depending on the formula, it can also aid in the overall improvement of your skin’s structure. Some ingredients to look for include squalene and shea butter.
Follow these three simple steps twice daily with an exfoliation once or twice weekly, and your 50-plus skin will glow noticeably. Consistency is key, so stick with it! Care for your skin wisely and you will age beautifully.
