The Importance of an Annual Check-Up

Guys This Means You!

You’re a guy! You’re indestructible! You don’t need to go to a doctor.

Well I am here to tell you that it is worth your time and effort to visit your physician at least once a year.

Even if you feel fine, there are some things that need to be checked every year.  Have you gained weight? Gotten your flu shot? Is your energy level low? These are a few questions your doctor will want to ask.

Many serious diseases do not show symptoms unless your doctor checks for them.  High blood pressure; sometimes people do not know it is high until they are in the hospital with a stroke.  Diabetes is a silent disease… until it gets really high.  High cholesterol has no signs but can lead to a stroke or a heart attack.

After 50+, and in some cases younger, you should be screened for certain medical tests; colon cancer, ask your doctor for the different ways to screen for the disease.  Colon cancer screening has been proven to save lives!  Prostate cancer screening is also important and is recommended if you are at risk or have symptoms.  A Lung Cancer screening should be done in certain high-risk populations.

Establish a relationship with your Primary Care Provider.  Even if you are the picture of health, are up to date with your screening tests and are not on any prescription medications, no one is invulnerable.  Your doctor will advocate for you if and when you get sick, need a referral, or end up in the hospital.

Men usually do not focus on their health; work and family come first.

Visit your doctor for a yearly check-up. Do it for you. Do it for your loved ones.
